Naegi Castle site

苗木城跡

Naegi Castle once stood in Naegi, Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, on Mt. Takamori (elevation 432 meters) on the right bank of the Kiso River, which flows through the city from east to west. Its most distinctive features are the walls made of huge stones. This mountain castle was built to make the most of the natural terrain with Kakedukuri architecture, since it was difficult to secure a traditional building site atop the rocky peak.

Cross the Shiroyama Ohashi Bridge and then turn right in front of Shiroyama Hospital toward Toyama Museum

Take Kitaena Kotsu bus for Naegi and Tsukechi from JR Nakatsugawa Station, and get off at the Naegi bus stop after 10-minute drive.

Magomejuku

Tsukechi Gorge

This spot is popular among photographers for the beautiful contrast between the clear blue waters of the Fuka River and the autumn tree leaves overhead. The park includes a circular walkway about 800 meters long where walkers can savor the beauties of nature.

The Kashimo Meijiza Theater was built in 1894 by a large number of village residents. The Kashimo Meijiza Theater offers guided tours of facilities normally inaccessible to audience members, such as backstage, dressing rooms, side stages, and below the stage. (Reservations required: tours unavailable during local kabuki performances and other events)

Fujimidai Highlands

富士見台高原

At an elevation of 1,739 meters, the beautiful Fujimidai Highlands in Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture are covered in bamboo grass. Thanks to its beautiful scenery and easy accessibility by car to the center of the mountains, it is a popular spot among those who enjoy mountain recreation—both male and female. On a clear day, it offers contrast between breathtaking views of the blue sky and a the mountains covered in green bamboo grass. Visitors can enjoy a panoramic 360° vista that includes Mt. Ena and the Northern, Southern, and Central Japanese Alps.
